Tuesdays With Morrie by Mitch Albom

|
What it's all about?
Morrie Schwartz, is terminally ill. He's dying of ALS, a disease of degeneration of motor neurons. He knows that he will die soon. He is Mitch long-time-not-see professor, a coach that always teach Mitch lessons.   And this is the last lesson from Morrie to his student Mitch. The lesson of life. Despite his terminally illness, Morrie gives a great lesson of life. He knows that his life is at its end, but Morrie never gives up on life. In Tuesdays With Morrie, Mitch spends his Tuesdays attending Morrie final lectures and love grows between a spiritual mentor and his pupil.

My Thought
I can say that, this book is a complete guide of life. The whole aspects of life is covered by Morrie final lessons. He talks about love, money, marriage, regrets, emotions, family and a lot more. I kind of admiring Morrie because despite of his illness he still treasures his life and share it with other person. He never gives up his life. He knows that he will die soon but for him, that is not the reason to stop living. He looks at death from a different perspective and he said “once you learn how to die, you learn how to live.” Yeah, there is the truth in his words. We know that, every living thing will face death. Birds, fish, plants and even us human being will die. Death make us realized the reason we live, and what are our responsibilities, so that when the time comes we don't regret anything. I know that, the topic discussed between Morrie and Mitch is heavy. But, the author Really did a good job on how he delivers the issue. I really love the way Mitch Albom writes this book. The lesson given by Morrie is enjoyable and I don't get bored over such critical topics such as death, family, marriage, etc.The way Morrie gives advices and opinion with laughter, and humors makes me feel like I was there with him and truly listen to his voice. It really moves me.

This might be the first time I read Mitch Albom's writing but I think it is brilliant and realistic. This story is told from Mitch's point of view but ironically I feel like the one who tells stories is Morrie  Schwartz. The way that the book is organized is easy to follow and it keeps me focus on the lesson and I can really understand all the points highlighted. all in all, this book is completely well written, packed with moral lessons which are easy to digest. It feels so good when someone is telling us what we need  in our life and what we really have to do so that our life will be a great one. So, I recommend Tuesdays With Morrie to all of you out there. Don't miss the lessons guys!!

“It's very simple. As you grow, you learn more. If you stayed at twenty-two, you'd always be as ignorant as you were at twenty-two. Aging is not just decay, you know. It's growth. It's more than the negative that you're going to die, it's also the positive that you understand you're going to die, and that you live a better life because of it .”

The team is doing well, and the student section begins a chant, “We're number one! We're number one!” Morrie is sitting nearby. He is puzzled by the cheer. At one point, in the midst of “We're number one!” he rises and yells, “What's wrong with being number two?”

She leaned forward. “Yes, David, what is it?” He took her hand in his. “I’m sorry,” he said. And then he fell back into a dreamless sleep.

The Movie: The Last Song

|
Title/Year: The Last Song (2010)
Director: Julie Anne Robinson
Writers: Jeff Van Wie (Screenplay), Nicholas Sparks (Screenplay and Novel)
Genre: Family, Romance
Cast: Miley Cyrus (Ronnie Miller), Greg Kinnear (Steve Miller), Bobby Coleman (Jonah Miller), Liam Hemsworth (Will Blakelee)
CoffeeNCrackers' Meter: 2 cups of Coffee

.: Plot :.
Seventeen-year-old Veronica 'Ronnie' Miller's life was turned upside-down when her parents divorced and her father moved from New York City to Tybee Island, Georgia. Three years later, she remains angry and alienated from her parents, especially her father ...until her mother decides it would be in everyone's best interest if she spent the summer on Tybee Island with him. Ronnie's father, a former concert pianist and teacher, is living a quiet life in the beach town, immersed in creating a work of art that will become the centerpiece of a local church. The tale that unfolds is an unforgettable story about love in its myriad forms - first love, the love between parents and children - that demonstrates the many ways that deeply felt relationships can break our hearts ...and heal them.

.: My Comment :.
A typical Nicholas Sparks's. Nothing new and nothing special about this movie. But, I have to admit that it does have some family values to be learn. The scene where Jonah desperately wants to finish up his father's work, while his father is hospitalized due to cancer really touches me. He also have a good relationship with his sister Ronnie and they are very close to each other. He's good. Credit to that boy! As for Miley, I seriously think that she doesn't suit to be Ronnie. lacks of emotion and her acting seems so wrong. Maybe the character is not for Miley as she is more suitable to be a happy go lucky girl! I knew that Miley wants to try a variation of characters (Since she quits Hannah Montana), but this is an honest advice from me to her, "Miley, just stick with your Hannah Montana self, 'cause I love you more with that kind of character.". You got it Ms. Cyrus? Owh...one more thing, did she really knows how to play piano? Another good side, this movie also brings the message from WWF (or so I thought). Lets save our Turtle! =b

.: The Last Song's OST :.

The soundtrack is great. Miley did a really good job, and her singing is fabulous. When I Look at you is one of my favorites right at the moment. Unlike the movie, this song manages to get 4 stars rating from me. Well done!

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

|
What it is all about?
In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister's place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before—and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that will weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

My Thought.
First of all, I have to bare in mind that, the narrator of this story is Katniss Everdeen, an active, courageous, spirited, caring, smart (is she?) and a never-give-up girl who leads a hard life in District 12. It was not easy at first to go deep into her mind and to adjust my thought parallel to her at the beginning of the story. So, I end up putting this book aside and flipped several pages and put it again for several times. But, the story becomes more interesting when it comes to the game.

Since the story is about a survival game and the last-man-stand-is-a-victor, I really expect something which is extraordinary. But, Suzanne Collins can't give me that. The actions in this book just OK, nothing special about that. I expect something more furious, more brutal ( in the sense of survival game), but all I get just simple fights. However, I have to admit that this book is a YA book, and Collins is right to make it like that because her targets are young adult readers. But, a little bit more action won't hurt.

The Hunger Games would be better if the story is not only from Katniss's POV. Why? It is because, a lot of interesting parts are put in questioned when Katniss is not around such as the fight between Cato and Peeta, and what happen to Peeta after that as well as the part when Rue was cornered by the Careers which I think might be great if we know what exactly happen. But, all in all, Collins idea is great  but her delivery is just OK. I'm looking forward what will happen in the next book of the series. Hope that Catching Fire will be much better than this one.

Summers never look the same
The years go by and time just seems to fly
But the memories remain

In the middle of September we'd still play out in the rain
Nothing to lose but everything to gain
Reflecting now on how things could've been
It was worth it in the end...............

Well, August is approaching the end and September will come with a bright smile. All Daughtry's songs are my favourite. September is a really nice songs and it makes me feel alive. The lyrics is beautiful and fantastic. Nicely composed song which I think one of the best among Daughtry's songs. The Choice by Nicholas Sparks

|
The Story [From Cover]
Travis Parker has everything a man could want: a good job, loyal friends, even a waterfront home in small-town North Carolina. In full pursuit of the good life- boating, swimming, and regular barbecues with his close buddies- he holds the vague conviction that s serious relationship with a woman would only cramp his style. This is until Gabby Holland moves in next door.

Despite his attempts to be neighborly, the attractive redhead seems to have grudge against him.....and the present of her longtime boyfriend doesn't help. Still, Travis can't stop trying to ingratiate himself with his neighbor and, his persistent efforts lead them both to the doorstep of a journey that neither could have foreseen. Spanning the eventful years of young love, marriage, and family, The Choice ultimately confronts us with the most heart-wrenching question of all: How far should you go to keep the hope of love alive?

My Thought
The Choice is my first read from Nicholas Sparks and I enjoyed it so much. Technically, The Choice consists of two parts together with prologue and epilogue. In the first part, in 1996 the story revolves around Travis and the girl next door, Gabby. The start with a little crappy argument about a pregnant dog which I think is funny enough to make me lough. And then they accidentally become friends again because the dog and just in a short while pop! the fall in love. Well, this might be the first Spark's book that I read, but I did watched two films adapted from his books, The Notebook and Dear John. All the characters are easily fall in love which I think not too realistic. They spend two or three days together and then saying "I Love You" to each other. Uh huh...It's just to good to be true. However, I do think that the love story between Travis and Gabby is amazing. They are sweet, they are funny, and they are great in many ways. But, here comes the conflict, will Gabby leaves her longtime boyfriend for a guy she hardly knew? She has to choose. The first part is very relaxing and easy to read because all thing seems so great and romantic.

But, the second part of the book gives different perception. Everything is different. Eleven years after that, Travis is put under pressure. His world is crumbling apart and he just can't stop blaming himself for what had happened. He's left with a choice, and the choice puts him in a great dilemma. To defend his love or to just let go? This part is sure heartbreaking and I just have to control myself to not to shed tears because it's really sad. It's really hard for me to finish this part but I stay until the last page. I'm really impressed by the way Sparks create the story. He makes Travis vulnerable but strong at the same time. I admired Travis quite a lot and I also hated him for blaming himself. I do predict the ending, but my prediction is nothing but wrong.Well, I might love this book more if my prediction hitting the bull's eye.

Well, if you ask me which one my favorite character is? I'll tell you it's Steph. I love this outspoken, understanding, funny, confident and ambitious girl. She also very supportive and always be there when Travis needs her.Though, she has to little of appearance throughout the story, but every time she comes out she gives quite an impact not just to other characters and the story, but me the reader as well. She's great! In a nut shell, The Choice is a novel worth reading. Got to get other installments by Nicholas Sparks.

My Comment
Beautiful! The cinematography is just so beautiful. I feel like I want to be there myself and watch the kites fighting in the sky and run myself of the ally ways. Marc Foster knows his job very well and the movie turns out great. I think the boys are awesome in acting, and they're cute too. Each and every characters give impact to me especially Hassan, Amir and his Baba. The friendship and betrayal, and an eternal love of father and son really moved me and even make me cry. LOL. All in all, this is such a great movie and I don't hesitate to give it a 5 stars rating. Highly recommended to all of you out there.

If you love this movie, you will also love the novel, The Kite Runner.

Magyk by Angie Sage

|
What it's all about? [From Cover]
The seventh son of the seventh son, aptly named Septimus Heap, is stolen the night he is born by a midwife who pronounces him dead. That same night, the baby's father, Silas Heap, comes across a bundle in the snow containing a new born girl with violet eyes. The Heaps take this helpless newborn into their home, name her Jenna, and raise her as their own. But who is this mysterious baby girl, and what really happened to their beloved son Septimus? The first book in this enthralling new series by Angie Sage leads readers on a fantastic journey filled with quirky characters and magykal charms, potions, and spells. Magyk is an original story of lost and rediscovered identities, rich with humor and hear.

My Thought
First of all I would like to praise this book for its great cover and illustrations at the beginning of each chapter. Just love 'em and it helps me to imagine the characters. Credit to the illustrator, Mark Zug for such a well done work. OK, Magyk is really magic. I love this book and really enjoy reading it. The story begins with Silas Heap finding a baby in the snow and at the same time of his seventh son, Septimus is declared death. The baby, then named Jenna is not an ordinary girl because she is the heir of the murdered queen.  In this story, I keep on guessing who might be the real Septimus since there are two boys  who are claimed as Septimus. One is the apprentice of a Dark Necromancer and the other one is a young army boy, who knows nothing bout his family. So, basically, Magyk is about a quest of finding who is who with a great adventures and of course when we talk bout magical story, spells, charms, potions, and enchantments are bread and butter. Though the series is called Septimus Heap, the real star in this first book is Jenna the queenling.  Such a nice little girl. *lough* OK, For the start of a series, the characters is still developing and I think this is such a great introductory book written by Sage. All in all, Magyk is a fun-to-read book rich with adventures and magics.I'll definitely got to get the next books.

Shall We Tell the President? by Jeffrey Archer

|
The Story [Goodreads.Com]
After decades of struggle, sacrifice, and personal tragedy, Florentyna Kane has finally attained her goal--the presidency of the United States. Yet even as she gives her inaugural speech, those who oppose her are plotting to silence her forever. Only one man knows when the assassins will strike, and even he doesn't know where, how, or most importantly, who they are. He has only six days to track down the senator at the heart of the cold-blooded conspiracy. Six days in which he can waste no time, leave no trail, and trust no one. One wrong word, one false move, and both a nation and a dream will crumble.

My View
Archer achieved what most authors dream about: writing a page-turner. The story and suspense flowed naturally through every page, until I'd finished the book and hardly realized it. I enjoyed the men-slaughtering, car crashing, assassinate plotting, and some romance . All seemed so real to me. It was like watching a movie. A live action! It was unbelievable that the agents can keep such a fatal secret (assassination)  from the President. Before I realized it, I keep asking the same question until last page. The Client novel was the first Grisham's novel that I read, and it was thrilled and it was such a great reading. Since then, I always wishing for his other installments but never manage to get any. I think Ford County will do for me. So, I wish I'll get it soon. *smile*

Ford County by John Grisham

In his first collection of short stories John Grisham takes us back to Ford County, Mississippi, the setting of his first novel, A Time to Kill.
Wheelchair-bound Inez Graney and her two older sons, Leon and Butch, take a bizarre road trip through the Mississippi Delta to visit the youngest Graney brother, Raymond, who’s been locked away on death row for eleven years. It could well be their last visit.

Mack Stafford, a hard-drinking and low-grossing run-of-the-mill divorce lawyer, gets a miracle phone call with a completely unexpected offer to settle some old, forgotten cases for more money than he has ever seen. Mack is suddenly bored with the law, fed up with his wife and his life, and makes drastic plans to finally escape.

And five more  interesting stories come together in one book. Featuring a cast of characters you’ll never forget, these stories bring Ford County to vivid and colorful life. Often hilarious, frequently moving, and always entertaining, this collection makes it abundantly clear why John Grisham is our most popular storyteller.

 My Thought
Frankly, I'm not really into motivational or self help books. But, this is just the right one for me. It's simple, fun to read, great story, informative, but most important it really makes me feel motivated. I just can't stop reading it, because the way the author, Sharma telling the story is excellent. Though, it is a motivational book, "The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari", is a very light reading yet the contents is great This is one of the greatest books that I ever read. It changes my way of thinking and mind setting. I highly recommend all the readers out there who haven't read this book yet to pick it up and read. I can cross my finger that you won't regret it. And yes, I'm satisfied with this book. It's gorgeous!!

The Movie: The Notebook

Plot Summary
The Notebook begins with a man in a nursing home, reading a story to a woman. The story is about two young lovers, Allie Hamilation and Noah Calhoun, who meet one day at a carnival. Althought the two are falling in love, Allie's parents forbid the relationship and move Allie away. After waiting for any sign (such as letters) from Noah from years, Allie meets Lon and becomes engaged. However, Allie still has feelings for Noah. Despite her commitment for Lon, Allie decides to visit Noah to see how he's doing after seeing his picture in the newspaper in front of a house he said he was going to restore (and did). It soon becomes apparent that they have feeling for each other. Allie now has to choose between Lon, the man she had already scheduled to marry, or Noah, the man who she subconsciously wants.

My Thought

Seriously, I don't know bout that guy who played Noah at all. His acting was not bad and not that great either, but thanks to Rachel McAdams, she made the story a lot better. She's a great actress, yeah, I know. Well, I keep on guessing, you know between Noah and Lon ( is he the Cyclops guy? ) which one of 'em is the old man, Duke who read the story to Allie? But yeah, I guess it right after all. I think it's hard for Duke to keep on waiting for his wife Allie, who's experiencing the "senile dementia" disease, kind of Alzheimer's disease where the  brain cells are degenerated and caused senility to come back to him. To make her remembers him back. I just can't imagine how the world would be if all my memories is taken away from me. And I don't really know what to do, when my beloved persons, my mother, or my granny, or wife, (in future) or my siblings have the same disease (They won't, God will). Just imagine when you come home to see your mother, and when you meet her then she asks you "who are you?". How do you answer that? It's difficult right. But love will never bring us apart. It always keeps us close together no matter what are the circumstances. =b Oh, one thing that I don't understand, why is the title is The Notebook after all? I'll read the book to find it out! Ciao...
